US Medical Missionary Team from York, Pennsylvania

In September 2006, Apam Catholic Hospital received a team of expatriate surgeons from York, Pennsylvania in the United States. The team was composed of a Plastic Surgeon, General Surgeon, Cardio-thoracic surgeon, an Obstetrician Gynaecologist, a Medical Anaesthetist and several nurses. Their work was made possible with sponsorship from Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Rotary Club International, York P.A and Building Solid Foundation Inc., Ghana/York.

The surgeons and staff in general were highly motivated to perform and at the end of their six (6) days work, they had performed 106 surgical operations of various kinds ranging from plastic surgery to fistulae repairs.

The same team returned again in September of this year (2007), with support from the same associations. On this occasion however, they worked for eight (8) days, performing a total of 156 operations. They also attracted considerable media attention, including an article in The Daily Graphic and a special news report on TV3.
